The Sponsorship Award of the DEFA-Foundation in amount of 4.000 Euro at the 33rd Max Ophüls Preis went to Antje Hubert for her film „Das Ding am Deich – Vom Widerstand gegen ein Atomkraftwerk“.
This documentary reports about the adversaries of the nuclear power station Brokdorf in Wilstermarsch in Schleswig-Holstein and shows their daily routine between rebellion and resignation. The film starts in 1976 with the beginning of the construction, shows the opening of the nuclear power station in 1986 und goes on with the catastrophe of Fukushima and the nuclear phaseout in Germany.
Anja Hubert documents the story of the anti-nuclear movement and of his protagonist through their souvenirs and their current protestations. The long period of this documentary, the richness of the stock footage and the numerous interviews with witnesses and protagonists turn the film in a unique contemporary document of the recent german history.
