In July, the DEFA-Foundation continues its monthly screening „Brüche and Kontinuitäten“ at Arsenal Cinema with two films by director Erich Engel. The film series, conceived jointly by the DEFA-Foundation and the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Foundation, addicts to nine directors who worked for the UFA prior to 1945, and for the DEFA after 1945.
In the movie ES LEBE DIE LIEBE (G 1943), Manfred Richter, the tenor of an operetta of the Berliner Apollo-Theater trys to obtain the Diva Manuela de Orta for a Revue. The legende Johannes Heesters plays the role of Manfred Richter.
The film AFFAIRE BLUM (GDR 1948) ist about the Jewisch entrepreneur Jacob Blum, who is judge to be murder, although he is innocent. Only the commissioner Bonte convicts the real delinquent. The Film ist based on a true story from a Magdeburger justice-scandal in 1926.
