DEFA - Foundation

On 6th February 2012 the DEFA-Foundation shows in the context of its monthly film series at the Arsenal cinema short documentary about Berlin, which describe several aspects of the city, from citybilder to typical inhabitants of Berlin and to political themes.

The Film EIN HAUS FÜR KINDER (DDR 1980) presents the "Ernst Thälmann" Pioneer Palace in Berlin and the children who attend activities there. KOLLWITZ-PLATZ BERLIN (DDR 1986) relates the story of Kollwitzplatz through the souvenirs of the fotograph Horst Sturm. FRIEDRICHSTADTPALAST (DDR 1987) is about the construction of the new Palast and IM PERGAMON-MUSEUM (DDR 1962) shows visitors of this place and the way they look at it.  ...ABEND AN DER SPREE (DDR 1962) conveys impressions of the night life in Berlin.

In the second part of the evening, three documentaries will be shown: PALAST DER REPUBLIK - HAUS DES VOLKES (DDR 1976) tells the story of the construction of this buildung in Berlin. WER FÜRCTHET SICH VORM SCHWARZEN MANN (DDR 1989) describes the life of coal hiker in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg. FEUERLAND (DDR 1987) depaints an iron foundry in Berlin and the typical berliner bar next door, the "Borsig-Eck".
